  • Beijing's cheap hotels and hostels are amazingly popular for backpackers, short-stay guests and others hoping to save money. Hotels line every major street in Beijing, but only some of them accept foreign guests, as regulated by the government.

In Beijing, many youth hostels are actually small hotels, and there are not usually age restrictions. The hotels are clean and the only hostel-like aspect could be the fact that many rooms don't have private bathrooms.

City Central Youth Hostel is a great option for anyone trying to save money and yet stay centrally located while in Beijing. You'll enjoy the simplicity but also the cleanliness.

For a more traditional hostel-hotel experience, the Drum Tower Youth Hostel is a decent place to stay with loads of attractions in walking distance.

Located in the stadium, the Gongti Youth Hostel is a fun and lively cheap accommodation alternative where you'll have direct access to Sanlitun and the city's hottest clubs and bars.

HouHai Youth Hostel is located on the lake and is a charming and somewhat romantic cheap lodging with access to the lake's many cafes and restaurants as well as proximity to many other cultural highlights.

Peking International Youth Hostel and Far East Hostel are both hotel-hostels that have nice rooms with bathrooms as well as a hostel option in the basement. You'll find these affordable and yet clean and relatively close to the city's attractions.

If you plan on visiting Beijing to study, then the Peking University Hostel is the place for you located in the university district of Haidian.

For 100% Chinese hotels, try TangYue and Gu Xiang, which nationals use for cheap business travel and short-stays to save money.
