One of the few complaints expats have when living abroad is that its nearly impossible to get an American-style steak. In Beijing, this complaint is rarely heard as there are several authentic steakhouses in the city that offer varrying degrees of authenticity and qualities of meat. You can find home-grown meat or at fancier steakhouses you'll find they import fresh beef from the good ol' US of A daily.
For a decent steak done to local midwest standards, head to the Grill at the Radisson Hotel. You'll find steaks that will please you, impress your palate but harm your wallet a bit. Sometimes, when you need a chunk of meat though, its worth the price.
All Star Bar and Grill and Union Bar and Grill offer high-priced steaks that are worth the char-broiled wait and again worth their weight in gold. These are true steakhouses and even have a bit of the authentic decor cowboys of the modern era would enjoy.
Again, Astor Grill and The Bar & Grill are high end steakhouses with decent sides, alternative items on the menu and a delicate and non-steakhouse like decor and atmosphere. These places are better for dates and romantic outings, where steak isn't the only thing on your mind. Pullman Steak and CPU Steakhouses are similar such locations.
Steak and Eggs and Chef too are a bit more affordable, and the menus are varied enough that you can enjoy a decent meal without ordering half a cow.
No, with selections like these you are unlikely to hear a Beijiner ever complain about the lack of a good steak in the city.
