Sanlitun is where the party is in Beijing, every night of the week. If you want to head to one place where the nightlife is always booming and the choices are plentiful, then head to Sanlitun. Every cab driver will know exactly where to drop you off with that one simple location name- "San Li Tun!"
The top ten bars, clubs and nightlife for Sanlitun include Bar Blu, which is located directly north of the Village on the top floor of a massive brick building. You'll find a dance floor that keeps on rocking all night long, lounge chairs and, in summer, a patio with a view of the area.
Kai and The Smuggler's offer cheap drinks, with beers as low as 15-20rmb a bottle. You'll find a mixed group of locals, college students and English teaching expats all crowded around the tables enjoying cheap drinks, a great atmosphere and decent music.
A bit more upscale, Bar Blue and Stumble Inn offer drinks around 50rmb a glass, but the selection is more extensive and the clientele a bit more discerning. Pool tables, dart boards and big screens all offer entertainment while expert waitresses whisk around new orders. Located in the Village, these are great places to start the night off right.
For a low-key Sanlitun hangout head to The Bookworm, where you'll find a lending library, book store and nightly literary events nestled around a greenhouse-like room that is magically lit and expertly staffed. Drinks and food are pricey but worth the dough.
