  • Hou Hai is a beautiful and famous lake in the middle of Beijing. Once a pleasant place for the Emperors to stroll in summer, now the lake is circled by bars, restaurants and even boutique hotels. It is a romantic place for a stroll or a lively dinner out on the town.

    Some of the restaurants on Lotus Lane are extremely high class, and cater to a clientele with discerning tastes. Lotus Blue, named after the Tin Tin character, is a beautiful and exotic location right on the lake where you'll enjoy delicious Thai with a view of the water.

    Head inland from the lake and weave around the hutongs to Nuage, a Vietnamese multi-story building overlooking the lake. Ranked as one of the best places in the city for romantic decor and water views this is a Valentine's Day favorite.

    More laid back, Hutong Pizza is hailed as the best and most authentic pizza in town. Finding it is a bit of a challenge as its located in the maze of hutongs without much signage, but once you do locate it you'll be happy you survived the maze.

    Chinese options around the lake include Hai Bar, Mei Mansion, Yue Lu and Huatian Xiaochi. You'll get filled up on these delicious local options and you wont' break your budget to do so.
