Beijing Biking

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Beijing used to be a city of bicycles. It was the most common form of transportation after walking. Today, the subway, bus and taxi network have taken over and bikes are less common in Beijing, but still an active hobby for many. You'll find a plethora of amazing places to bike in and around Beijing as well as great places to buy biking equipment and expats and locals eager to give you biking advice.

Two excellent venues for extreme, heart-pounding biking are the Laoshan Mountain Bike Course and the BMX Venue. Enjoy wild adventure in Beijing, the athletic way. The road cycling course is another great fun way to experience extreme biking in Beijing. You'll find like minded bike enthusiasts eager to hit the open road with you. If you can't find someone to bike with, hit the Beijing Hikers club and Shun Xiang Carting Club to find enthusiasts who also crave high-speed adventure.

It isn't hard to get a hold of a bike in Beijing if you didn't bring yours. Either rent one through Di Bai Bike Rentals, or buy one at the Tian Yuan Li sporting store. Now that you are equipped, you can hit the road solo if you choose. The road to Badaling from Beijing was used for biking in the Olympics and is a fun, winding piece of high-quality road.

Chaoyang Park is a beautiful place to go biking, as is Hou Hai Lake. You'll find other people leisurely peddling around the lake and the park-- including some in rickshaws and some on two-seat bikes. Its an adorable place for a bike date or even a hard workout.
