To be honest, Beijing's interest in golf is still budding. Most golf enthusiasts in the area travel to greener pastures and professional courses abroad. Indeed, this isn't a cheap hobby or one that the Chinese would take lightly if they undertook it at all. As a result, in Beijing there is really only one well known and trusted course, the Chaoyang Kosaido Golf Club. Here you'll find people like yourself, enthusiasts and lovers of the game of golf.
But if joining the club isn't your speed, there are a few other options. For starters, you can head with your own clubs to Chao Yang Park, a massive area of greenery and woodland where you can practice your drive-- shooting cheap balls into the nearby lake.
Joining the Beijing Hikers is a great way to scout out perfect places for your golf practice. Why not bring along a few clubs and shoot from the seclusion of the lesser visited parts of the Great Wall? How many golfers can say they've done that!
But first, lets get fitted for the sport. Head to the Yongzheng Tailor to get fitted for your own classic plaid golf pants and head to the sports store for gloves and a goofy hat. Wangfujing Street, the entire area around the bookstore, has Rolex and other golf accessories on offer.
Now that you look the part, buy some affordable clubs at the sport store and hit the Great Wall. Watch out, Tiger Woods, a new pro is blossoming in Beijing!
