  • For a large industrial city in the heart of the most populated country on the planet, Beijing sure does have a lot of parks! And you can enjoy them year round thanks to the array of indoor and outdoor greenery in the city

Chao Yang Park boasts an entertainment park, ball courts and diamonds, walking space and open greenery as well as a lake and hundreds of oxygen-giving trees. A day spent here is not a day wasted!

Purple Bamboo Garden, on the West side of town, has a beautiful and quaint little garden and pond where lovers congregate to watch the sun rise or set.

Zhong Shan Park is part of the Forbidden City, and as such is a garden with royal offerings. Climb the hill or stroll around the base. For 2RMB, how can you go wrong?

Tuanjiehu Park, on the East side of town is a lively and packed little park where locals arrive en masse to do exercises and tai qi in the early mornings.

If you happen to be in the northern part of Beijing, Yu Yuan Tan Park offers a pleasing little lake and trees with a bit of green land to play in and loads of pets out for a stretch.

Bei Hai Gong Yuan is a lake surrounded with greenery, culture and a bit of class. Near the famous Hou Hai Lake, you'll find the development a bit slower in Bei Hai.

The Botanical Gardens and Beijing Zoo offer a fun way to enjoy greenery in winter. The Zoo is almost more a massive park than an animal reserve, while the botanical gardens fascinate even the most educated of botanists.

Finally, Yuan Ming Yuan is a garden in the north associated with the old summer palace, a beautiful collection of wildlife and crumbled former greatness showing the power of nature to overcome human structures.
