Beijing is a fun place for kids, and especially so if you have kids slightly old enough to enjoy the cultural highlights the city has to offer. The Forbidden City, Great Wall and Nanluoguxiang are cultural highlights that you won't want to miss. If the kids can walk on their own, the Great Wall is an amazing sight they won't soon forget, and although the Forbidden City can get redundant for children, you can streamline the tour by cutting through the center and getting the gist of the palace, which is more fun for kids anyway. Taking a rickshaw ride up Nanluoguxiang makes for a fun family photo.
Animals may be a rare sight in Beijing, but you can find the animals at the zoo or the amazing Blue Aquarium. The latter of which boasts one of the longest aquarium tunnels in the world, making it possible to see various types of sharks, fish, manta and even a fun mermaid show.
Stock up on cheap kids gear at Ya Show Market, or the Children's Bookstore. You'll find affordable clothes at Ya Show but you have to bargain hard.
While away the hours at the beautiful parks in Beijing like the huge Chaoyang Park, filled with entertainment, a lake, boat rides, sporting areas and the ideal picnic venue. The Beijing Amusement Park is similarly fun for kids.
Finally, take the kids to the Children's Theater for a fun evening show.
