- Very close to the Great Wall at Shuiguan lies a haven in the green mountains of Badaling. Twelve contemporary architects have contributed to the design, layout and interiors of Commune by the Great Wall Kempinski. In 2005 it won the "A New Architectural Wonder of China' award from Business Week. With 236 rooms, The Commune has a Club House containing a library decorated in purple color and peacock feathers, a cinema that can seat 73, a ballroom and an exhibition hall too. Visitors can walk in for a tour of the hotel as well. There is an admission fee and the timings are—daily 9a-5:30p.
