• Lying in the city's northern suburbs, to the edge of the Great Wall, is a beautiful valley called 'Rainbow Trout Valley', for there are at least 30 trout fisheries scattered along the valley floor. Like most Beijing locals, you can make a weekend trip to the valley, fishing and picnicking. The captured fish can then be barbecued, steamed or cooked - as you like it. Many of the daytrippers prefer the barbecued style - tinged with pepper and cumin, the fish is wrapped in foil and stuffed with tomatoes, onions and ginger. Is your mouth watering yet?
