Extremely touristy, much of this part of the wall has been rebuilt. Still, the best way to see this ancient wonder if you haven't much time in your itinerary.

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

the road from Beijing to Badaling was used for the cycling part of the 2008 Olympics!

    Description:

    • This rebuilt part of the Great Wall is the closest to the centre of Beijing and offers a quick and easy way to see this historic landmark. As the most visited part of the Great Wall, Badaling can be a little touristy, but the cable car and toboggan run make it the least strenuous section to climb. Badaling was constructed in 1502, and is perhaps the best representation of what the wall would have originally looked like thanks to the excellent restoration work. Being only 80km from Beijing in Yanqing County, it is the site visited by both Richard Nixon and Margaret Thatcher on their trips to China. Badaling is an impressive and well-organised area of the wall that is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
