- This Taoist temple dates back over 1000 years and played a major role in the Changdian temple fair for more contemporary Beijingers. The architecture may seem more recent than that -- sporting fresh coats of paint and repairs, it may be more accurate to say this temple site dates to over 1000 years, as the buildings have been regularly rebuild about every 250 years or so. The latest update occurred just before the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The area around Hou Hai originally was called Shishahai or "Sea of Ten Temples" of which Huoshen Temple was one.
