Morning Tai Chi

Description:

  • To most Beijing residents these morning tai chi rituals that take place in Tiananmen Square and every public park in the city, are just part of daily life's routines. But to foreign visitors it represents Chinese culture at its disciplined best. Hundreds of tai chi devotees gather for collective workouts. Others practice kung fu and even ballroom dancing. Some even resort to slapping trees, walking backwards, or unleashing primal screams. All these acts, according to the Chinese, help revitalize the body and mind with new energy.
