Stone Scripture Hill (Shi Jing Shan)

Description:

  • The name, Stone Scripture Hill, comes from its caves housing numerous stone slabs with Buddhist scriptures for about 1,000 years. The stone scriptures derived their roots from ancient China when Buddhism was abolished twice. To prevent the loss of Buddhism, Monk Hui Si carved Buddhist scriptures on stone slabs and buried them in caves. Since then, monks have continued to practice this until the 17th century. A total of more than 1,000 volumes of Buddhist scriptures were carved and housed in the nine caves here.
