- One of the most beautiful places to enjoy Beirut atmosphere and lifestyle in Place de l'etoile, Nejmeh Square in arabic. Located in the center of the renovated downtown area, a huge clocktower sits in the middle of the square. Several road spread out from there in all directions, each one dotted with chic cafes, boutiques and designer shops. Thankfully, the square and surrounding smaller streets are a pedestrian area, so you can stroll relaxed without fear of Beirut's fierce traffic. Not far and easiy reached by foot are the Beirut souks, a modern shoppng mall but constructed around the Intabli pool, a pond with mosaic tiles which used to be the site of Beirut's most famous patisserie and sweets shops before the area was completely destroyed during the civil war.
