Belfast is renowned for the hospitality of its people. It's the ideal place for a family vacation -- kids of all ages alike will never run out of things to do in Belfast. Start your adventure with a visit to Odyssey Complex. This enormous entertainment, education, and sports center on the east bank of the river is bursting with activities and has been popular since it opened in 2001. For kids, its hands-on science center is a hyper-modern, interactive learning environment where children can compose their own music on an air harp, create tornadoes, learn how robots are built, and try to make one of their own. Also in the complex is an arena where the Belfast Giants ice hockey team plays, an IMAX cinema, video-game arcades, and lots of bars, restaurants, and cafes. On a rainy day, there's probably no better place to go to keep everyone amused and dry.
Cave Hill Adventurous Playground is a place to run wild, with thrills and spills for children aged from three to fourteen. Plenty of sandpits are available, as well as slides and swings for the younger ones. More adventurous older kids can clamber up the space net, and slide down the aerial runway. Another great spot is Ark Open Farm, where children are made especially welcome and are encouraged to interact with the animals through cuddling and feeding. The farm is set in 40 acres of beautiful North Down countryside and houses a wide variety of animals, including rare poultry, cattle, sheep, and pigs. There are also nature walks, pony rides for all ages, and, away from the animals, an adventure playground. These family-friendly activities will surely keep you and the kids entertained the whole day through.
