- Since the early 19th century Belfast has been at the centre of Ireland's commercial textile industry. Smyth and Gibson, as manufacturers of the finest shirts, are carrying on a tradition of quality. In their sleek and minimal store on Bedford Street a splendid array of shirts reposes, with an air of quiet confidence, alongside a gleaming spectrum of neckties, inviting fastidious browsing. Ties range from £30. Grooming products for man and dog are displayed side by side. Those for men (and for dogs too, I assume) are of the finest, from Creed colognes and Taylors of Bond Street. Smyth & Gibson: for gentlemen of the old school and modern city chaps too, though possibly the espresso bar downstairs might find more favour with the latter.
