• This hotel is a bit staid and not for the party crowd, but it's an enduring favorite. Located near the harbor, it has long been a base for young people from nearby districts. It's operated by the Bondeungdomslaget i Bergen, an association that sponsors cultural and folklore programs, and school and civic groups sometimes reserve nearly all the rooms. The five-story hotel was built at the turn of the 19th century and renovated in stages, with additional rooms completed in 2007. Ongoing refurbishments, as needed, have kept the hotel looking young. Lars Kinsarvik, an internationally known designer, created some of the furniture displayed in the public areas during the late 19th century. The small, simple guest rooms are immaculate, with good beds and tiny bathrooms.
