Description:
Readers who associate Greek cuisine with roadside diners or dingy blue-and-white storefronts in strip malls will have their preconceptions swept away by this commendable taverna. Almost hidden on the heavily commercial street leading north from Great Barrington to Stockbridge, it occupies a building with an enclosed porch, an open terrace, and three dining rooms. The menu is laid out in the traditional manner, with sections for mezedes (appetizers), salates, and thalasina (seafood), along with pastas, poultry, and lamb. Execution is what counts here, elevating such standards as moussaka (potatoes, eggplant, and ground beef with béchamel) and lamb plaki (with mushrooms, Vidalia onions, and feta baked in a clay pot). Especially appealing are the fish and shellfish dishes, 17 of them, utterly fresh and simply prepared. Thursday is lobster night. Opa!
