Description:
On the Ku'Damm, which was the heart of West Berlin in the Cold War era, this hotel still exudes an old-fashioned charm that we find most appealing. It is not for those who get off on moderno. To testify to its age, vintage photos of long-ago guests line the walls, and there is a lot of Victorian clutter. Nonetheless, it has attracted such past guests as the very hip David Bowie, so it must be doing something right.
The hotel prides itself on offering spacious, even elegant rooms, while maintaining a typical decor of Berlin, which has long ago faded at most hotels. The hotel dates from the end of the 19th century, and it miraculously survived the war. Bedrooms are most comfortable, evoking some of the charm of the 1920s. Those overlooking the Ku'Damm are double glazed to cut down on traffic noise.
