Description:
- Hearty central European cuisine is not particularly popular among modern young Germans, who tend to prefer Arabian, Asian or Italian food to their own calorie-loaded fare. However, an exception seems to be made for Austrian and southern German cuisine which is deemed exotic enough to be cool. A fine example of this sort of establishment is Austria on Bergmannstraße, Kreuzberg's melting pot of Turkish culture and old Berlin architecture, of junk shops and exclusive boutiques. The interior is full of traditional Alpine kitsch: hunting trophies and oil paintings of the Matterhorn. The food despite the unusual decor is mouth-watering enough for you to ignore it all.
