Opernpalais / Operncafé

Description:

  • Situated next-door to the Staatsoper unter den Linden, the Opernpalais, built in 1733-37 by F.W.Diterichs, is connected to the older Kronprinzenpalais by an arched bridge. As the city residence of Friedrich III's three daughters, the building was long referred to as the "Princess' Palace". Nowadays, it is home the cafe, which provides a rare opportunity to enjoy 19th century-style luxuries in modern-day Berlin. The traditional coffee and cakes, as well as the decor complete with brass fittings and oil paintings, all serve to add to the regal, old-world charm of the cafe. The patio garden makes this a particularly popular destination in the summer.
