For the best shopping street try Taunzienstraße and the Kufürstendamm in City West although every district has it's own shopping centre including a department store. For the best nightlife - well that depends on what you are looking for . You can try Oranienstraße around Heinrichplatz in Kreuzberg as a start. There are many nightclubs nearby. You can also try the ExBerliner website - http://www.exberliner.com/

G´day from Berlin. Shopping in Berlin is a vast field. Depends what you prefer. West Berlin city is wellknown, but not all. Have a view into district Schöneberg around Motzstrasse, Winterfeldplatz.Might fit you even, along all the small shops with uncommon and exotic things. Or explore one of the old -Markthallen-, market halls some of them are still in use, like in Kreuzberg, Eisenbahnstrasse.
Nightlife: Into district Friedrichshain, around Boxhagener Platz, Warschauer Brücke, a lot of different venues and possibilities with people from all over the world.
