Being a kid in Bermuda is like stepping into a fantasy world, there are so many unique and exciting things to do. Visit another world, check out the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo. This complex is home to a large collection of tropical marine fish, turtles, harbor seals, and other forms of sea life. In the museum, you'll see exhibits ranging from the geological development of Bermuda to deep-sea exploration to humpback whales. The zoo is home to alligators, monkeys, and Galapagos tortoises, along with a collection of birds, including parrots and flamingos. The North Rock Exhibit, in a 140,000-gallon tank, allows visitors to experience a coral reef washed by ocean surge.
The kids will also love the Spittal Pond Children's Walk. Spittal Pond, operated in partnership by the Bermuda National Trust and the Department of Agriculture, contains Bermuda's largest bird sanctuary and evidence of the island's earliest human inhabitants. During this walking tour, children (and parents) can discover the natural environment, including Spanish Rock and the Checkerboard. Refreshments are served at the end of the tour and admission is free.
The calm water of Shelley Bay Beach differs greatly from the South Shore beaches in that it is never prone to whitecaps or riptides. Ideal for the entire family, the Bay includes a tidal pond with mangroves and thickets that attract herons and kingfishers. Small children enjoy the playground equipment, and sailboat and paddleboat rentals are available at the Beach House. So, go ahead, let your kids run loose in Bermuda; these family-friendly activities will let them discover a whole new world.
