Great Head Park

Description:

  • St. David's Island was once a strategic location for Bermuda's defense. There is a battery on the cliffs of this park with breech-loading guns that date back to the early 1900s. The small battlement was manned during World War II to keep a lookout for German U-boats. The view of the Atlantic is spectacular. The walk-up to the fort is a bit overgrown with palmetto, allspice and fiddlewoods; however, there is a welcoming committee of birds and other wildlife that greets visitors. A parking lot and bathrooms are available on premise.
