Virtually everybody in Bern agrees that since this restaurant opened on the 6th floor of its best-rated hotel, it has surpassed all of its competitors. It occupies a conservatively modern cream-colored dining room whose focal point is a sweeping wall of windows with views that reach across the Aare River toward panoramas of Bern's historic core. Menu items are impeccably fresh and presented with verve: Examples include a terrine of gooseliver with "all the traditional accompaniments;" lasagna dotted with fresh forest mushrooms and capped with fried scampi; crisp-fried Emmenthaler beef with crushed peppercorns; and fried loin of Swiss alpine lamb with alpine herbs. Bern's only casino lies on the hotel's fifth floor, immediately downstairs from the restaurant, encouraging many diners to test their luck either before or after a meal.
