The Paul Klee Collection (Zentrum Paul Klee)

Description:

  • Until around 2004, most of the artworks within this museum were contained within an overcrowded series of rooms within the also-recommended Kunstmuseum. That was before they were moved into a museum created expressly for them by Renzo Piano, one of the most celebrated architects of Italy. Today, in a location about 5 km (3 miles) east of Bern's Altstadt, more than 4,000 works by the artist Paul Klee are proudly displayed as a kind of homage to Bern's "local son who made good." The painter was born in Switzerland in 1879. The local collection of his works includes 40 oils, 2,000 drawings, and many gouaches and watercolors. Klee had a style characterized by fantasy forms in line and light colors. There's a gift shop and a restaurant on the premises, serving platters of straightforward food Tuesday to Sunday 11:30am to 11:30pm.
