• Henry Miller was a novelist, painter, and Big Sur resident. "I like Henry Miller," Bob Dylan said. "I think he's the greatest American writer." The spirit of the man, who earned this high praise from one of music's more profound lyricists, lives on at the Memorial Library. It is a workshop space for creatives cut from all swathes, and a gathering place for the spread out Big Sur community. Musicians and performers, like John Waters, come to Henry Miller, as do films and fashion shows. There's a spiritual presence in the redwoods here, a higher power washing over the trees and stages. It's hard not to be affected by a visit here.
