After a long day of wandering around the gorgeous city of Aix-en Provence, you’re going to want food fit for a king (or queen for that matter). Wander no further than Le Clos de la Violette, one of the best French restaurants in the town. One wonders where to even begin in order to describe the lovely food at this popular restaurant. Like most restaurants in the area, Le Clos de la Violette uses only the freshest ingredients, almost all of which come from a 50 mile radius of the town. Situated in one of the more elegant sections of town, the seasonal dishes highlight all that’s local and fresh in this particular region of France. Indeed, the menu changes daily in order to serve only the freshest of ingredients. The ambiance is lovely as well. The restaurant is a favorite for special occasions with the locals. Start out with a full-bodied glass of red wine, sure to accompany any traditionally French meal. If you’re in the mood for a leisurely dinner, look no further than the tasting menu. Tasting menus are a fantastic way to get the true feel of regional cuisine. In particular, the spicy roasted filet of duck is not to be missed. If you’re looking for a meal that’s traditional to the area, the fresh foi gras of duck with smoked filet of rabbit and olives is one of the specialties. Above all else, do not miss the delicious desserts served here. The desserts are made daily as well, using only the freshest fruits in season. The tiramisu is too good to pass up. If you’re not a pastry lover and are looking for something a bit lighter, the Provencal figs make a lovely end to a fantastic meal. It’s true, this is easily one of the best restaurants in the area, so be sure to visit it at the beginning of your trip in case you’d like to repeat the experience!
