Each Christams Amsterdam hosts a variety of winter activities around the city.  This years biggest is Winterland at Rembrandtplein, and contains Christmas decorations, a skating rink (with rentals), and food and drink stalls.  Make sure you try the Gluhwein, a hot drink made of wine and spices.  Poffertjes, or miniture Dutch pancakes, are also a must and made hot and fresh while you watch.   Finally, Oliebollen are a staple New Years food in Holland and must be sampled during your visit to Amsterdam.

Leidseplein also has a skating rink and food stalls, and is closer to the city’s museum district, but the area is smaller than Winterland.
