Museum Mania in Amsterdam
Events, free, Kid Friendly, Things to Do, Travel Tips — By Scott Roane on March 31, 2011 at 12:24 pmThis coming weekend, starting on Saturday 2 April, it’s Museum Weekend in the Netherlands. This means that 33 museums in Amsterdam will be offering something for nothing! And in the case of 15 museums this means that entrance is free. These include:
Allard Pierson Museum
Bijbels Museum
Bilderdijk Museum
De Oude Kerk (Highly recommended)
Film Instituut Nederlands
Historisch Archief TOZ – Mueseumwoning (Highly Recommended)
Huis Marseille – Museum of Photography
National Science Center (NEMO) (Highly Recommended)
Activities for Kids
The other museums have additional activities, ranging from Hebrew lessons at the Jewish Historical Museum to Roman cooking demonstrations at the Allard Pierson Museum. A number of museums have specific activities for children:
Museum Het Schip – A 1.5 hour workshop for young and old, where together you’ll paint a fabric in Amsterdamse School style for use by the Amsterdam Fashion School
Madam Tussauds – Free karaoke corner where you can sing with the stars.
NEMO – special workshops based on fun scientific activities.
Verzet (Resistance) Museum – 50% discount on the entry price and a free handheld computer with explanations that bring the displays to life.
The website www.museumweekend.nl is in Dutch, but to find museums which are taking part, simply type Amsterdam into the box ‘op plaatsnaam’. To find museums with children’s activities click the ‘Toon musea met’ tab on the map and select the bunny rabbit icon.
