Photo Friday: Sunset at Cape Sounion
Things to Do — By Paige Moore on July 2, 2010 at 7:28 pmAttica is shaped like a horse’s head. Cape Sounion is its nose. Here there have been centuries upon centuries of watching the horizon; likewise, upon sight of those gleaming white columns, sailors at sea would swell with hope knowing that home was near.
Now tourists flock to the shanty remains of Poseidon’s temple to catch a spellbinding sunset. Night after night they make the hour long drive from Athens, all the way down the coast of the Aegean, meander along the ruins, hunt for Lord Byron’s signature along the columns, sip overpriced cappuccinos at the Naos cafe, but mostly just waiting for the moment where they will rush up to the rocks and “click“
Where the highlight is the last light.
