This Month’s Local Flavor in Athens: L-O-V-E and Traffic.

February 3 is Chinese New Year, the year of the Golden rabbit. That means that all of 2011 is going to be living in according to the ways of the rabbit which means Love with a capital “L.” Metal, the element of 2011, corresponds to Venus, the Roman name for Aphrodite who is, duh-duh-DUH- the Greek goddess of Love! (Note “L.”) Even looking at the numbers in 2011 we see the number 2, which looks like one half of a heart, an “0” which is like a little egg… and then two 1’s standing side by side, the perfect couple.

“Very interesting. What does this have to do with Athens?” you ask, and I’m so happy you did!

In honor of this most cosmic year of Love and the two upcoming holidays: Chinese New Year and Valentines Day, each blog post until February 14th is going to be all lovey and chocolaty and wine-soaked. Keep an eye on the romantic Athens top tens as all will be updated to reflect the perfect places to find love, fall in love, or stay in love in -and with- Athens.

Doesn’t that sound nicer than focusing on the transportation strikes?  Oh, speaking of which,  I’m sorry to report that they’re rumored to go on and off again throughout the week. Tuesday and Wednesday buses are expected to strike for a full 48 hours.

Expect traffic, delays, and opportune moments to share the backseat of a taxi with a handsome stranger.
