Are you looking for lunch at the Jersey Shore for $5.00 or less? If you don’t count fast food, it’s not easy to find — but it can be done.
While searching for the best lunch on the cheap, I tried out a few $5.00 lunches, and I have to say, Sugar Hill Sub & Deli on Somers Point Road in Mays Landing is my favorite. It’s tough to compete with the White House Sub Shop in Atlantic City but these guys definitely hold their own.
I went for the mouth-watering Smokin’ Gerry Senior sandwich, a concoction of natural smoked turkey breast with Lancaster smoked Lebanon bologna and a spicy Thumann’s mustard on a round Kaiser roll for $4.90. Absolutely delicious!
Sugar Hill Sub & Deli offers a huge variety of deli sandwiches and subs, as well as cold cuts, salads, drinks and pre-packaged ice cream. It’s a bit tough to find — I’ll admit, I’ve lived here for years and had to make a few u-turns the first time I looked for them. But with the help of this google map you’ll have no trouble.
They also make great chicken steak, steak or meatball sandwiches for $4.75 and a veggie sandwich for $4.55. Or try their daily special for $4.23 including tax.
Sugar Hill Sub & Deli’s sandwiches and subs are made with fresh bread and stuffed so full, if you’re not a big eater you might need to divide them into more than one meal.
Their breakfast sandwiches, most below $4.00, are tasty and a good alternative to a sandwich. They make them all day, and there are about a dozen different options on what to put in them.
Enjoy your lunch outside on the picnic tables or take it up the road and eat lakeside at Gaskill Park.
If you’re in the area, Sugar Hill Sub & Deli is worth a lunch stop. In fact, it’s worth the trip even if you’re not in the area.
So what do you think? Which places would you recommend at the Jersey Shore for a good $5.00 lunch?
