Grab your blanket and favourite picnic foods because Saturday night is New Zealand’s largest outdoor Christmas concert. The event is very popular and fun for families, groups of backpacker mates, or couples wanting to smootch in the dark (although privacy is another issue). The usual procedure is to visit the supermarket in the afternoon to stock up on goodies for dinner, collect up blankets, frisbees and friends, and then head over to The Domain via bus, car or feet, and look for that primo spot to lay your blanket.
Popularity dictates that you will not be able to park within a billion kilometres of the event so be prepared for a bit of a walk. Well, OK, not a quite billion. But just be aware that you will be schlepping your stuff for a wee walk and prepare accordingly. There will be a variety of performers, none of which you may know if you are not from New Zealand but some of them are really good and it’s really all about the atmosphere even if Justin Beiber isn’t singing.
Saturday 11 December from 7.30pm to 10.30pm
The event itself is free but any funds raised will go to local Surf Lifesaving.
