American Idowl winner Lee DeWyze performed for 400 people at a private event at AYANA Resort and Spa Bali recently. The performance was a part of a Fox International Channels Gala Dinner which was held on the cliff-edge lawn of the 77-hectare resort, against the always stunning backdrop of the Indian Ocean.
The Idol winner was suitably impressed. “I’m not just saying this, but this resort and Bali itself, is the coolest place I’ve ever been. AYANA is definitely the nicest place I’ve ever stayed,” enthused the singer-songwriter, whose rough-hewn voice and laid-back Midwestern charm won over millions of viewers as a contestant and eventual winner of the ninth season of American Idol. “I plan to come back again. I’d love to perform at the Rock Bar.”
Strumming a guitar up on the stage and supported only by a pianist, DeWyze performed nine songs at AYANA, including seven original tracks from his new album, Live It Up. He also added two covers – Use Sombedoy by Kings of Leon and Rocket Man by Elton John. His Bali performance was part of a six-city promotional tour for his first major label debut album, following Hong Kong, Manila and Taipei, with Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur up next.
On how winning American Idol had changed his life, DeWyze said, “It’s allowed me to do what I’ve always wanted to do, but which I wasn’t able to do before. Whether it’s helping out with charities, traveling around the world, or just doing what I love the most, making my own music, I now have that opportunity.”
