Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival

The Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival 2011 has recently wrapped up its month-long festivities. The premiere fashion and food event in the capital has been running since 2004, and this 8th event in the series sees the Summarecon Group team up with Jakarta Tourism Board and collaborating with various organizations. The theme for this year is Inculturation, which focuses on the effort to nurture love towards cultural products and legacies from Indonesia’s part art and cultures and to incorporate them into a modern product while at the same time retaining the soul of its unique cultural identity.

The JFFF combined fashion and food and further strengthened Jakarta’s reputation as a center of fashion and shopping in Asia, while at the same time allowing the capital’s culinary industry its time on the spotlight. This current year event sees the opening of the festival with the Gading Nite Carnival, the first night carnival to be held in Indonesia, whith took on the theme of Exploring the Tropical Country. Hundreds of artists and performers took over the stage, with various acts such as Irian Jaya Dancers, Fire Dancers, Marching Band and not forgetting of course a spectacular fireworks showcase.

Another popular event during the festival is the Fashion Extravaganza, which sees over 87 designers took part this year, all from APPMI and IPMI. The event sees the Fashion Icon Awards ceremony, as well as Gading Model Search and GMS Kids Category. On top of that, there was also the Gading Fashion Entrepreneurship Awards, which honored the talent and entrepreneurship spirit of various young desingers.

Finally, there is the Kampoeng Tempo Doeloe (KTD) at La Piazza, one of the mainstay of JFFF. The KTD is a huge food bazaar with a classic theme, all the vendors took on the guise of old colonial street hawkers, with various classic gourmet treats being offered for guests to enjoy. All in all, the JFFF was a huge success, with visitors sure to be looking forward to next years edition of JFFF.
