We’ve been fortunate enough in the Baltimore area to have missed the onslaught of snow madness that has burdened parts of Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. However, just because the worst of the storm has missed us, doesn’t mean that we don’t have plenty of fun winter activities to partake in throughout the area.
Whether you decide to stay in town or venture out to a local mountain in either Pennsylvania or West Virginia, there are plenty of opportunities to get your snow boots wet. Winter activities in the area include hitting up a neighborhood hill for some free sledding or visiting one of the few indoor ice skating rinks that the city has to offer.
The closest mountains for skiing can be found at Liberty, Blue Knob and Elk mountain; Seven Springs, Wisp, Wintergreen and Whitetail Resorts in nearby Pennsylvania. If you have a little more travel time, in West Virginia you can find great winter fun at Timberline, Massanutten, Canaan Valley, and Snowshoe Mountain Resorts.
One of the best winter activities that I’ve found to do in Baltimore when the snow is ankle-height, the wind is whipping around furiously, and the temperatures are in the twenties, is snuggling with a good book, warm furry socks, and a hot cup of cocoa.
