American football is not terribly popular in Thailand, but you’d be surprised how many regular season games come on live on a Monday morning on cable TV or are replayed that night — with Thai commentators. So the alternative, of course, is heading to one of the sports bars.
Super Bowl XLV is the granddaddy of all the games. In 2011 the last two teams standing are the Pittsburgh Steelers and this Wisconsin boy’s Green Bay Packers. Super Bowl Sunday in the United States translates to Super Bowl Monday Morning in Bangkok. But where to see the game? Here are a couple of American sports bars in Bangkok where you can see the 6:30 am kickoff on Monday February 7:
They will open for the game at 6 am. They also offer free phone calls home to the US during that time. The menu is American with a few Thai dishes.
Roadhouse offers the big party spread with an all-you-can-eat buffet for 650 baht. Their famous ribs are great even at such an hour, but there is also a breakfast spread with eggs made to order. Guests receive a welcome drink, either a bloody Mary or orange juice. Reservations are recommended.
