WORLD CUP FEVER IN ESPANA

What's New — By sammednick on June 30, 2010 at 10:18 am

Spain’s defeat over Portugal last night sent Spain into the final 8! Although Barcelona isn’t known for it’s strong feelings of Spanish nationalism, the city was definitely buzzing and it’s only going to continue to get crazier, especially if  Spain makes it to the quarters, the semis and obviously the finals.

Here’s a list of some of the best places to catch the games. Tip to the wise though: Get to your destination AT LEAST 30 minutes prior and in most cases 45 minutes earlier or even an hour can get you a table with front row views to the big screen.

1: Flaherty’s Irish Pub (Off Las Ramblas)

Yes it’s an Irish pub, but it’s got a great outdoor patio, tons of big screens and an intense, amazing vibe with great service.

2: Chiringuito 23 (Barceloneta)

Big Screen outside on the beach! If you’re a diehard fan and  need to hear the newscasters’ commentary throughout the game, this might not be the best place to come. But if you want to catch some sun and watch the game, it’s a great option.

3:  O’Ryan’s Bar (Gotico)

A smaller, quainter Irish pub, yet relatively local. Nice for a more calm ambiance.

4: George Payne Irish Bar

Right in Plaza Urquinaona. Tons of big screens, great service and really exciting atmosphere. But get there early because they cap it off after a certain number of heads.
