Barcelona’s Best Beaches

Things to Do, Travel Tips — By sammednick on July 6, 2010 at 9:34 am

Although Barceloneta and Chirinquito 23 are probably the most convenient places to catch some rays, grab a mojito and chill on the beach, if you’re looking for a calmer, cleaner and more relaxed day at the playa where the frequency of the ‘sexy beer’ men and ‘masajee’ women is every 10 minutes as opposed to every 10 seconds, then hop on the train and venture out!

Only 20-30 minutes away, depending on where you go, there’s some wonderfully clean, wide and awesome beaches. Get on the train at Arc De Triomf and check out these places:

1: Ocata Beach (personal favourite) Wide beach, not very busy, clean water and tons of chiringuitos

2: Montgat (a few stops before Ocata). Not as wide, but has a great vibe, plenty of places to eat and clear, shallow water.

3: Sitges (about an hour or a bit more by train) Gay capital of Spain, if not the world, with gorgeous beaches, white sand and a really quaint little town to walk around in. Definitely worth checking out and an easy day trip from Barcelona.

4: Casteldefells (about 40 minutes outside of the city). Wide beaches with lots of places to each including an amazing parillada (bbq) place along the beach.
