Hotel + Spa = Heaven

My fantasy getaway is not always a trip to a distant destination; sometimes an urban escape, a stay-cation if you will, at a fancy hotel with a fabulous spa fits the bill. No planes needed and no long drives, just a night or two of seclusion from reality. When the need hits, as it often does, I make my way to one of two tempting hotels (home to two of my favorite spas) in Boston: The Mandarin Oriental (The Spa at Mandarin Oriental), or the W Hotel (Bliss Spa). Let your mood rule here (feeling high society or urban chic?) because either choice is the right choice.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel offers enough “zen” to relax the most harried guest. This hotel oozes calm, but for those in need of a something a bit more hands on to erase what ails head to the hotel’s 16,000-square-foot spa and fitness center. Seriously serene is the best way to describe this retreat, peaceful music pumps through the rooms and soft calming colors enhance the surroundings. Choose anything from a single service to a full day experience, but be prepared to pay a hefty sum.

Not the zen type, then head to Bliss at the W Hotel. Cool seeps through the walls at the W, making it a super trendy spot to stay. Like the hotel itself, Bliss Spa is a totally different, upbeat, fun spot where pampering is the top  priority. This stylish spa leaves the new age noise behind replacing it with mellow rhythm and blues.  Bright and airy, Bliss offers an extensive assortment of treatments for relaxation and rejuvenation using Bliss products. Prices are lower than many other fancy hotel spas (and pretense free). Bliss is a breath of fresh air.
