Capitol Reef Scenic Drive Closures

The Scenic Drive in Capitol Reef will have occasional closures and delays February-July 2011. Long in need of some repairs, the paved road that winds through some of Capitol Reef’s most stunning geologic formations might be a challenge at times for visitors.

The most popular sections of the road, including access to the historic Gifford House and the campgrounds, will be open, although delays may be encountered.

Starting March 7, the section from the campground to the Capitol Gorge road will be entirely closed for three weeks. There will also be a four-day period in July when this section will be closed to chip seal the road.
