Veszprém Street Music Festival

As we all know, music festivals have their irresistible charm, but the Veszprém Street Music Festival is something else! From the 13th to the 16th of July, the streets of Veszprém fill with musicians of all sorts from drummers through buskers to harmonica players, who originally performed not on huge stages, but on corners, squares and the occasional small podium set up around the city. With the festival having somewhat outgrown itself over the past 12 years, stages are now set up around the inner city streets, but with the artists still playing practically within hand’s reach, the atmosphere is as friendly as ever making you feel part of the performance! And you don’t just have to feel part of it; you can actually be part of it…

Artists and bands with an acoustic sound wanting to perform can enjoy a few moments of fame on the streets of Veszprém by applying with a demo tape and a few words describing their formation. Those performing will receive free accommodation and two meals per day, and the artist or band voted the best street musician of Veszprém by the audience and a jury receives a prize of 1 million HUF. There is one more place up for grabs, so get applying!

For those who prefer to be on the other end of the gig can enjoy a wide range of music, an exhilarating atmosphere and still make a difference by voting for their favourite artist or band.

The programme so-far comprises of national and international artists performing on the Castle District main stage, including the Hungarian Irie Maffia Sound System and the Los De Abajo from Mexico. Four “Street Musician” stages dotted around the inner city streets have been filled (bar one place) with artists of all shapes and sizes.

According to custom the music and atmosphere can be enjoyed free of charge, but due to the limited capacity of the Castle District, only a limited number of day tickets can be bought for main stage events before the concerts, on the day.
