The three days designated as national days of mourning following the sudden death of former president Nestor Kirchner have shaken Buenos Aires, causing a major halt in citywide activities and rerouting every form of transportation that runs through the center of the city, where Kirchner’s massive wake is being held in Plaza de Mayo‘s Casa Rosada, BA’s White House.

Thousands of mourners, forming a line stretching for 20 blocks, are patiently waiting their turn to file past the casket before Kirchner’s remains are returned to his home city of Rio Gallegos in the Patagonian province of Santa Cruz later today for burial. The city has decreed all scheduled events postponed until tonight, as the third official day of mourning comes to an end. Until then, all exhibitions, activities, and other events are to remain closed – see individual venues for postponement details.
