Cabo Submarine has been operating in San Lucas since 2008, and offers one of the area’s more unique tours aboard their 60-foot yellow semi-submersible. Yes, that’s right, a yellow submarine. The boat tours are about one hour in length, and offer guests top deck views of Bahia San Lucas, Medano Beach, and Land’s End, as well as underwater fish viewing from their large below deck port hole style windows.
Enjoy the abundant opportunities to see the local marine population, including pelicans and sea lions as the boat motors out to sea. Once the submarine clears the boat traffic of the marina, guests are invited down to the climate-controlled underwater viewing cabin, with each seat having a viewing guide attached, showing almost 70 species of marine life that may be seen on the tour. It is not uncommon to see moray eels and manta rays, sharks, dolphins, even whales, as well as more modestly sized and more colorful species like king angelfish, puffer fish, parrotfish, and gaff-topsail catfish. Don’t worry if you can’t identify them all by the guide, there is a crew member below to answer questions and help with identification.
The crew begins feeding the fish when the boat settles into the deeper water past Lover’s Beach, making sure there are plenty of curious fish pooling about the port holes, and giving guests a colorful glimpse of the vast array of sea life in the Sea of Cortes. These incredible underwater views makes the tour one of the best kid-friendly activities in Los Cabos.
Due to the murky water conditions within the marina, guest begin and end their tours on the top deck, reclining on the wooden benches that line both sides of the vessel. The top deck portion of the tour is most entertaining on the return voyage, when the captain takes the boat very close to El Arco and other well-known rock formations along Land’s End. If you want to get a picture of friends or family with the Arch in the background, this is the tour. And, as might be expected, there are very good odds you will hear a certain song by The Beatles during your voyage.
