Wednesdays always see the Mazaher Ensemble perform at Makan – ritual healing music, heavy on the arrhythmic percussion, known as Zar.

Loads of good music going on today with the pick of the bunch probably Dr El-Fateh Hussain’s band, which promotes traditional and modern Sudanese music around the world – playing at al-Genaina Theatre in al-Azhar Park.
Friday
Alternative music festival at al-Sawy Centre, showcasing ten alternative and contemporary Egyptian bands. Or, at the opposite end of the spectrum, DJ Tronik is playing uplifting House at the Cairo Jazz Club.
Saturday
Again, lots of good looking stuff going on today though most interesting will probably be innovative Egyptian composer Fathy Salama’s concert at the Cairo Opera House.
