Friday Photo: Attaba Market Area

Photo Friday, Things to Do — By Pharaonick on October 8, 2010 at 10:00 am

It’s been a while, but here’s another Friday Photo offering.

This is a picture of the Attaba market area taken from above, presumably from the al-Azhar flyover. The photo is CC licensed and was shot by tinou bao.

Attaba is an insane area in Cairo, a series of interlinked markets where if you can name it, chances are you can buy it… as long as you can find it, of course!

It’s a great area in which to wander around and get lost. The best way to visit is to take the Metro to Attaba station and go from there. It brings you out in Azbakiya book market, and from here it’s easy to dive right in to the chaos. Another cool thing to do is to walk from Attaba to Khan al-Khalili along al-Muski street.
