It’s no secret that, each year, 1000s of Americans travel to Cancun or that  there are many American chain-restaurants and boutiques in Cancun.  Surprisingly, you will also find celebrations going on for the 4th of July.

Many hotels have BBQs by the pool, and display US flags, in honor of their American guests.  Nightclubs will often have US flags displayed, or will have a red, white, and blue color scheme that evening.  It’s a small gesture and, for tourists used to seeing the Stars & Stripes flying each day, you may not even notice it.  For an American living in Mexico, however, it makes me happy to see the US flag on display, for a change.

In the past, Dady’O and Dady Rock have had celebrations for 4th of July, although I’ve not yet received notification about a party this year.  Wicky’s Beach Club, located in Playa del Carmen, at Calle 10 & the beach (next to the old lighthouse) has announced that they will be having a party.  They will be grilling up hot dogs & hamburgers and serving other traditional fare, like Deviled Eggs, potato salad, and, of course, apple pie.  Weather permitting, they will also have fireworks.

Regardless of where you celebrate Independence Day, be safe & have fun!
