Visitors to Cancun can now participate in a rather unusual activity for Mexico; camel riding. Camel Safari, a tour where guests ride camels in the jungle and on the beach, is the area’s newest tour. Many people often dream of riding horses on the beach but not camels. That is an activity that people only think of doing in the shadow of Egypt’s pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza. Well, instead of traveling all the way to Egypt, you can now have the once-in-a-lifetime experience of riding a camel on the beach, in the Riviera Maya.
The tour is offered through Lomas Travel, a very large travel company in Cancun. The price is $70 US dollars, per person (children and adults pay the same price), and includes round-trip transportation between your hotel and the ranch, a bottle of water, fresh fruit, the services of an English speaking guide and, of course, your camel ride. Unfortunately, there is no more information available that actually describes this tour. Participants of this tour must be at least 10 years old and cannot be over 200 pounds.
Lomas Travel also has a Camel Safari tour on the southern end of Cozumel, but the price is higher and the age/weight limits are different. Both the Cozumel tour and the Riviera Maya tour operate every day except Sundays.
